Jim Hilliard Like most people who initially join a gym, you start out like gangbusters, doing your due-diligence day in and day out. And then typically you tend to lose momentum for any number of reasons…boredom setting in, or self-motivation slipping, resulting in skipping more and more days…perhaps opting to sleep-in instead. In my case, it was more the lack of seeing noticeable results. I came in every morning, went thru the same routine of combining elliptical along with the weight-machine circuits. I kept telling myself to keep doing what I was doing an it would pay off. But still it was slow going and a bit disconcerting. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I always noticed this group that would come into the gym, walk to the back and disappear into a little room. Every now and then, the door would open and I would hear loud music playing…I had no idea what was going on. I later realized it was an indoor cycling/spin class. It probably took me another month before I worked up the courage to “join the club”. I think I was a little intimidated not knowing anyone, or whether I could even hang with the group. I soon discovered I could hold my own; and later realized that the key missing factor in my workout strategy was the instructor-led class setting. The side benefit was gaining the comradery among the other participants. After talking it up with my wife that first month, she joined the group. (and four years later we’re are still at it). Our Trainer/Instructor, Randal Corley is not only extremely knowledgeable with regards to his craft, but is a down-right fun guy to be around. He is an incredible motivator, supporter, energizer, friend and a real “class act”.
The remaining week-days, Tuesday and Thursdays are filled-in with “Boot Camps” (every 6-weeks) and then Body-Shaping in-between boot camp sessions. And speaking of “class acts” (even though she’s an Aggie), Christi London, fitness director, is our fearless camp leader. There is never a dull moment with Christi…always cheerful and raring to go, even at 5:15 am…rain or shine. She leads by example every minute of every class…no rest for the weary. She never has us do anything that she wouldn’t do herself (twice). Her competiveness is down-right contagious. I admire her commitment, and like Randal, Christi is an incredible motivator, supporter, energizer, and friend. I remember telling her that I would give this boot-camp thing a try at the inaugural session, thinking I could last 6 weeks. (Four years later, my wife and I are still at it).
As with all the group sessions we participate, it’s the leadership and support of the participants that keep us going and minimizes the drudge factor of trying to do it alone. As the Cheers saying goes — A place “Where Everybody Knows Your Name”.
Steven Roznos This gym has been great for me. The trainers are great, and I love their enthusiasm. This gym is a high class gym.
Erica Anderson I needed something more within my fitness routine, so I added Christi’s Boot Camp. After my first week of boot camp, I gave her the nickname THE BEAST. She drags tires, runs hills, does pushups, whatever the routine is – she is by our side doing it with us, which has made me work harder to find my inner BEAST!
Vanessa Davis At the first Boot Camp, I was going to go with the group that didn’t think they could run for 10 minutes straight. Christi said that I could, in fact, run for that long and that I was in her group. I almost died at the first Boot Camp…but, the training has paid off…I’m now running half marathons!!
